The Heartbreak Kid
The Farrelly Brothers add their trademark bounty of bodily functions to this remake of Elaine May’s 1972 comedy, THE HEARTBREAK KID. So when he meets the seemingly perfect Lila (Malin Ackerman), he decides to marry her--despite knowing her for only six weeks. On their honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, he realizes his mistake when Lila reveals her true colors, which turn out to be quite ugly. Dragon Wars
East meets West, and ancient myth meets modernity in this creature feature from Korean director Hyung Rae Shim (REPTILIAN). A TV news reporter (Jason Behr, SKINWALKERS), an antiques dealer (Robert Forster, FIREWALL), and a beautiful young woman (Amanda Brooks) all play a role in an old Korean legend coming to life. A giant snake is slithering its way through the streets of Los Angeles, and the trio must keep it from reuniting with an ancient spirit that will turn it into an evil, even more destructive dragon. DRAGON WARS is a throwback to classic monster movies, but this time around, there are much better special effects than audiences saw in those films from both Japan and the U.S. Though the film is from South Korea, director Shim has recruited faces that will be familiar to American audiences, from ROSWELL favorite Behr to Forster, who turned in a career-reviving performance in Quentin Tarantino's JACKIE BROWN. But it's THE OFFICE's Craig Robinson who's the most fun here as a womanizing photographer who teams up with Behr's Ethan.

When Lily suddenly turns from a quiet baby into one who mysteriously begins wailing day and night, the Cairns' ordered life quickly disintegrates. The lack of sleep and stress takes a heavy toll on the mentally fragile Abby, and Brad begins racing around the city trying to care for his newborn daughter, ailing wife, and emotionally disturbed son. Mr. Woodcock
With BAD SANTA, Billy Bob Thornton proved he was willing to go all the way--no holds barred--in portraying unsympathetic, foulmouthed jerks. Here he brings that same skill to bear as the title character, a sadistic junior high school gym teacher who is every uncoordinated or overweight student's worst nightmare. Best-selling author of self-help books, Farley (Sean William Scott) thinks the tortures he's suffered at the hands of Woodcock are just the stuff of traumatic childhood memory, until he goes home to Nebraska to pick up an award and learns his widowed mother (Susan Sarandon) is in love with the man who made him miserable all those years ago. Farley recruits his unkempt buddy (Ethan Suplee) in a series of backfiring schemes to wreak some belated vengeance and expose Woodcock before the nuptials are sealed. There's plenty of nasty repartee between Scott and Thornton and some funny-disturbing bits from side characters, like Farley's ferocious publicist (Amy Poehler) and Bill Macy as Woodcock's even more sadistic father. Sarandon brings a lot of touching innocence to the table as a sheltered widow daring to feel love again, and Scott does some nice squirming and pratfalls. But of course it's Thornton's movie all the way--he grabs the ball and never lets it go, unless of course it's to hurl it at some poor kid's head.

Douglas stars as Charlie, a troubled musician who has just been released from a mental hospital. Miranda has been forced to quit school and get a job in order to support herself and hold on to her beat-up old car and the family house, which is right in the middle of a new development--but she has refused to sell out. Instead, she works extra shifts at McDonald's and has no social life. But her father--still suffering from mental illness--insists that she join him on a wild adventure in search of supposedly long-buried treasure, and soon the two of them are combing through California, facing danger as Charlie leads them on a crazy quest that takes them through major chain stores and restaurants. Wood (THIRTEEN) is excellent as Miranda, walking that fine line between wanting to believe in her father and feeling he should be hospitalized again--but she never stops loving him, even against her better judgment. Bushy-haired and wild-eyed, Douglas shines every second he's onscreen, dreaming the impossible dream.
