(We do not collect these names or emails!)Remaking a classic movie is certainly a tall order. There are often lofty expectations, and if the actors and producers fall flat, the backlash can be swift and severe. That did not happen to "The Thing," however, the 2011 update of the 1982 John Carpenter horror movie. The new release DVD hits shelves January 31.
The movie follows a team of researchers who discover an extraterrestrial spacecraft buried deep beneath the ice in Antarctica. The ship attracts the attention of experts including paleantologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winsted), Dr. Sander Halvorson (Ulrich Thomsen) and Adam Finch (Eric Christian Olsen) who set off to investigate the ship and its alien occupant.
It does not take long for things to take a turn for the worse. The alien escapes the base and the team soon realizes that it possess the ability to take the form of anybody, and distrust and paranoia soon runs rampant.
"The Thing" will always be one of the best-known horror classics, but to check out some of the most popular movies in recent memory, horror buffs may want to check out "The Descent" or "Quarantine."
