(We do not collect these names or emails!)Joel and Ethan Coen have risen to become two of the best revered film makers in Hollywood, but it wasn't always that way. Like everyone else they had a long rise to stardom, and it all begin 27 years ago this week when they released their debut movie "Blood Simple" on January 18, 1985.
The movie, an update on the classic noir story, not only marked the beginning of the Coen brothers' career, but it was also the first role for Frances McDormand. McDormand, who would later go on to win an Oscar for the Coen brothers' "Fargo," stars as Abby, the unfaithful wife of bar owner Justin. Her infidelity sparks a series of events that soon spiral out of control.
"Blood Simple" proved to be a groundbreaking film for the two brothers. Since then, the duo has been nominated for 13 Academy Awards and even took home the statue for Best Director and Best Picture for the thriller "No Country for Old Men."
To see some of their other great films, movie buffs should watch "A Serious Man" and "The Big Lebowski."
