Days after it scored big at the Golden Globes, "The Artist" nabbed 12 nominations for the upcoming British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards. The nominations for the ceremony, Britain's equivalent to the Oscars, featured many other standouts from the Globes, CBS reports.

In addition to being nominated for Best Picture, "The Artist" also earned a nomination for Best Actor with Jean Dujardin. The thriller "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," accomplished the same feat with Gary Oldman getting the nod. "Drive," "The Descendants" and "The Help" are also nominated for Best Picture.

The BAFTA Awards are often seen as a good indicator for who will dominate the Academy Awards, and if that's the case it could spell success for "The Artist."

"It's been an OK year but not a brilliant year for movies, and 'The Artist' defines what cinema should be. It's brave, different, it's got a great shot," producer Tim Bevan told CBS.

There were a number of excellent movies that came out in 2011 that didn't manage to earn nominations including "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Moneyball."
