George Clooney dominates Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are often seen as an indication of what to expect at the Academy Awards, and if that's the case, George Clooney must be feeling pretty good right now. Clooney took home the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his work in "The Descendants" and was also nominated for best director for "The Ides of March." Clooney has earned considerable acclaim for his acting in "The Descendants," which was directed by Alexander Payne, and he is considered by many to be the front-runner for the Best Actor Oscar. Despite the win, Clooney was humble and heaped praise on fellow nominee Brad Pitt during his acceptance speech, Entertainment Weekly reports. “The truth of the matter is Brad is my friend. I have never felt competition with him," he told reporters back stage. "I have only felt a great deal of friendship and support from him and for him." Though he came away with the win, Clooney was not the only big name to come home with a trophy. Maryl Streep won for her turn as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," and "Contagion" actress Kate Winslet won for her role on "Mildred Pierce."
