Next season of 'Weeds' could be its last

The Television Critics Association's winter press tour has revealed some interesting details about the future of some series, and the trend continued on Thursday. Showtime president David Nevins said that the upcoming season of the hit series "Weeds" could be its last, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show, which stars Mary-Louise Parker as a suburban mom-turned drug kigpin, is gearing up for its eighth season. But despite its popularity, Nevins says that it's a definite possibility that its run could end. It would not come as a surprise, however, since even an eighth season was in doubt earlier this year. The next season is set to debut this summer, and if its past is any indication it will continue to be a hit. According to the publication, the series is Showtime's highest rated comedy and attracted an average of about 720,000 viewers during the last season. It's no surprise that "Weeds" is warmly received. Showtime has a slew of popular series including "Californication" and "Dexter," which earned star Michael C. Hall a Golden Globe.
