The CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother," has experienced a rating resurgence in its current season, and although the show is moving toward its titular goal, its executive producers say it may go on past that. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas told TVLine.com that the question has come up but no decision has been made.

The series has already been renewed through season eight, but given its popularity there's no reason to think it could not extend longer. If that's the case, Bays says that he has a few ideas for how to keep things fresh.

"One way to go is to finish the [mother] story at the end of Season eight, and then Season nine is, 'Oh, by the way kids, I left some stuff out…,'" he told the website. "And then it’s just 24 little stories that took place over the course of the series here and there."

The show, which stars the likes of Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris, has been a hit since it debuted in 2005. Fans of the series may want to check out similar shows including NBC's "Community" or ABC's "Happy Endings."
