There has been an increasing tendency of networks turning to the big screen to come up with ideas for new series, and a Best Picture nominee is the next film to get such a treatment. Showtime is adapting a small-screen version of the 2010 movie "Animal Kingdom," Paste magazine reports.

There's no word yet about when the series will debut or who will star in the project, but John Wells was signed on to be executive producer. Additionally, David Michod, who wrote and directed the source material, is on board as a producer as well. Johnathan Lisco, who penned the series "Southland," is going to write the script, according to the publication.

The movie was one of the most critically acclaimed of 2010 and featured performances from Joel Edgerton and Guy Pearce as well as an Oscar-nominated turn from Jacki Weaver. The story follows the plight of a teenager who has to move in with his criminal family after his mother dies.

"Animal Kingdom" is not the only film that is likely to be made into a TV series. The comedy movie "Zombieland" is also in discussions to make its way to the small screen as is "Napoleon Dynamite."
