'Dolphin Tale' offers an inspiring story

Movies based on true events are often some of the most uplifting films Hollywood has to offer. Not only do they offer a heartwarming story but audiences also have the bonus of knowing the events actually transpired. Such is the case with "Dolphin Tale," which comes to DVD December 20. One day a group of marine hospital workers led by Dr. Clay Haskett (Harry Connick, Jr.) come across an injured dolphin that got hurt after getting caught in a crab trap. Helped by a youngster named Sawyer (Nathan Gamble), Clay begins the process of rehabilitating the creature. Haskett runs into some problems though after amputating the dolphin's tail. Although it learned how to swim without it, the unusual motion put significant pressure on its spine which could kill it. He and his team are tasked with finding a way to help save the animal and return it to the wild. Fans of uplifting movies based on true stories may want to check out the sports classics "Remember the Titans" and "Seabiscuit," which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
