Christopher Meloni may have ended his run on "Law and Order: SVU" after 12 seasons earlier this year but that does not mean he'll be leaving TV any time soon. The hit HBO series "True Blood" is rumored to be aggressively pursuing the actor to appear in a major role in the show's fifth season, TVLine.com reports.

Not many details are known about what exactly he'd be playing, but sources close to the show say he would be playing a powerful vampire, the website reports. If he ends up signing on with the show it would mark Meloni's return to HBO after he got his start appearing in the drama "Oz" from 1998 to 2003.

It certainly is not the only project that Meloni has on his plate, however. He is currently working on the Superman reboot "Man of Steel" in an as-of-yet undisclosed role. That movie stars Henry Cavill and Amy Adams and will hit theaters in June 2013.

Meloni is no stranger to trying his hand at different types of acting. He famously had a comedic role in "Wet Hot American Summer" and also appeared in an episode of the comedy series "Scrubs."
