Few families have fascinated the American public more than the Kennedys. There is still much to know about the family even though many of them spent considerable time in the public eye, and the 2011 miniseries "The Kennedys" hoped to explore their lore. The new release DVD comes to stores September 20.

The early episodes of the series focus on the beginnings of the Kennedy dynasty, showing the motives behind John F. Kennedy's (Greg Kinnear) eventual bid for the presidency. Though it shows the most important points in the family's history, it also examines the personal relationships between the family including the supposed infidelity of JFK.

The rest of the series focuses on JFK's time in the White House including how he dealt with the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as the growing racial divide in the United States, and eventually looks at the aftermath of his death.

The star-studded miniseries also features impressive turns from Katie Holmes and Barry Pepper. History buffs are sure to enjoy similar series including World War II epic "The Pacific" as well as "John Adams."
