(We do not collect these names or emails!)The horrific sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis was famously recounted in the classic movie "Jaws," but now the story may be getting a film of its own. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers and Robert Downey, Jr. have acquired the rights to tell the story through a unique lens.
Specifically, the film will look at the World War II sinking, and following five-day shark attack, through the eyes of an 11-year-old boy who wanted to clear the name of the captain. The boy, Hunter Scott, eventually succeed in amending the record of Charles McVay, who had been court martialed in the aftermath of the tragedy.
In addition to having a big name on board as producer, the movie will also have an acclaimed writer as well. The news source reports that Robert Schenkkan, who earned an Emmy for his work behind the camera on the HBO World War II series "The Pacific," has been tapped to write the script and direct.
Fans of movies focusing on that era may want to watch the 1998 classic "Saving Private Ryan" or the HBO series "Band of Brothers."
