(We do not collect these names or emails!)While it may have received tepid reviews from critics, that doesn't seem to be deterring audiences from seeing "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," as it just enjoyed one of the best opening weekends in recent memory.
Entertainment Weekly reports the action movie, the third in the "Transformers" series, grossed around $116.4 million in its four-day July 4th run, which places it as the largest opening on Independence Day weekend ever - ahead of the $115.8 million "Spider-Man 2" made in 2004.
Internationally the movie is doing quite well, too. According to the publications, industry insiders have estimated a $379 million pull, behind only "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" and "Spider-Man 3" in terms of opening weekends.
The impressive showing may be a good sign for studios in a summer that was full of lower-than-expected openings highlighted by the recent disappointing showing of "Green Lantern."
Additionally, the opening of the much-anticipated final installment of the "Harry Potter" series is slated for July 15, and if the series' previous films are any indication, it will be a huge draw.
