Ever since Activision released "Call of Duty: Black Ops" in November, fans of the franchise have been eagerly awaiting the next installment. It appeared last week that developers released a teaser for the rumored Modern Warfare 3, but according to IGN.com, it was all a hoax.

The rumblings of a trailer started in late February when a website with the url www.markarov.com appeared with a countdown starting at five days. There were also hints sent to members of the media, but after days of speculation, Activision came out and confirmed that any rumors surrounding the game are false.

"There seems to be a great deal of speculation about the next Call of Duty project. Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet. Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax," a spokesperson for the company told the website.

If the sales of "Call of Duty: Black Ops" were any indication, the next title in the series will be equally popular, as the title became the fastest-selling game of all time. Those who enjoy such first-person shooters will also like "Medal of Honor" and "Battlefield: Bad Company."
