"The Secret of Moonacre" is a wonderful family fantasy

From "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" to "The Chronicles of Narnia," fantasy films have been a hit with children for decades. Luckily, one of the most magical cinematic tales, "The Secret of Moonacre," is due to be released on DVD September 21. The movie, which is adapted from the novel "Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge, tells the story of Maria Merryweather (Dakota Blue Richards), a young girl who is sent to live with her uncle, Sir Benjamin, when her father suddenly dies. Her strange new caretaker resides on Moonacre Manor, where several bizarre events begin to take place. It isn't long before Maria discovers that she's at the center of an ancient feud with the evil Coeur De Noir (Tim Curry) and Robin De Noire (Augustus Prew). The young lady also finds out she has more powers than she could imagine and is tasked with saving Moonacre before it crumbles. Richards is an up-and-coming performer, so it's no surprise that the young lady has appeared in several commendable projects. In fact, she starred alongside Nicole Kidman in the 2007 fantasy adventure drama "The Golden Compass," where she played the character Lyra. "The Secret of Moonacre" is also Dove-approved, which means the entire family can enjoy watching the engrossing tale with one another. The film also won the Gold National Parenting Publications Award (NAPPA), Children's Product Category, and will be featured in the NAPPA Holiday Gift Guide.
