(We do not collect these names or emails!)Will George Clooney's new espionage thriller, "The American," lead the box office race this coming weekend? By the looks of ticket sales so far, it appears so.
According to Variety, the drama took in $1.7 million yesterday. With additional screens being added tomorrow, and Labor Day fast-approaching, movie analysts expect Clooney's latest cinematic turn to be quite the successful one.
"The American" tells the story of Jack (Clooney), an assassin who hides out in Italy as he awaits word on one final assignment. Once there, he seeks the friendship of a priest named Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and enjoys a whirlwind romance with Clara (Violante Placido), a local woman.
Clooney may have the magic touch when it comes to crime thrillers. His last two films in the genre, "Burn After Reading" and "Michael Clayton," enjoyed much box office success.
