It seems as though Zac Efron, who many would agree is as good-looking as he is talented, has been longing to shed his status as the hunk from "High School Musical" for some time now. The young actor, who won critical acclaim for "17 Again" and "Me and Orson Welles" may have finally accomplished that difficult task with his latest drama, "Charlie St. Cloud."

Efron stars as the title character, Charlie. A sailing champion, the fresh-faced teenager spends his afternoons cruising the open waters and bonding with his younger brother, Sam (Charlie Tahan). To top it off, the boys live with their mother, Claire (Kim Bassinger), on a picturesque seaside resort. In other words, they have it all.

Can you feel the drama fast-approaching? This happens one evening when there's a terrible accident and Sam tragically passes away. Distraught and overwhelmed with emotion, Charlie vows to never leave the island. Instead, he spends the next five years working at a local cemetery and playing baseball with his deceased brother. It's unhealthy, and he knows it.

Poignant and moving, "Charlie St. Cloud" embodies several film genres, all at once. Still, it works for the story. Based on the book by Ben Sherwood, the tale finds a way to balance romance, mystery and intrigue while keeping moviegoers guessing every moment of the way.

For Charlie, happiness finds its way to him when he crosses paths with Tess (Amanda Crew), another sailing enthusiast who is planning on taking a trip around the world. When she sets off and communication is lost with the young woman, Charlie realizes he has to decide what is most important to him - continuing his visits with his dead brother or going in search of the girl who may be the love of his life.

"Charlie St. Cloud" is a remarkable film for Efron - the actor finally proves he can emote with some of the most respected Hollywood actors in the business. Considering he's only 22-years-old, it's incredible to think what he has in store.

"Charlie St. Cloud" is rated PG-13 and has a 139 minute running time. The film contains scenes of sexual nature and adult themes and issues.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19915972-ADNFCR
