Rihanna and Alexander Skarsgard to star in "Battleship"

Hot off the heels of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," a movie based on a video game, and a year after the release of "He's Just Not That Into You," a film inspired by a line of dialogue from "Sex and the City," comes the newest crazed film adaptation - "Battleship." According to Variety, the project will be adapted from the beloved maritime board game. "True Blood" actor Alexander Skarsgard is set to star, with pop singer Rihanna also confirmed to be joining the project. The feature will mark her film debut. The news outlet reports that the plot of the action-adventure "takes place across the seas, over the skies and land in a battle for planet survival against a superior force." The casting of Rihanna in a lead role has many moviegoers wondering if the vocalist will be attempting dual careers. She wouldn't be the first - Cher, who won an Oscar for her performance in "Moonstruck," is widely regarded as both an actress and singer, and Aaliyah, a Grammy nominated vocalist, also starred in "Romeo Must Die" before her untimely passing in 2001.
