Although "Shrek Forever After" got off to a slow start, it looks like audiences are still curious about the green ogre's adventures.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the animated film beat out surprising competitors to become the highest grossing film this past three-day weekend. The children's movie took in $55 million, bringing its total gross up to $145 million so far.

Coming in second place was the Jake Gyllenhaal action-adventure movie "Prince of Persia," with $37.7 million. Surprisingly, "Sex and the City 2" followed, tallying $37.1 million.

These statistics were extremely surprising for movie insiders, as well as lovers of the popular HBO series. The last "Sex and the City" film accrued $57 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend.

Mike Myers may be best known as the voice of Shrek, but the talented actor has appeared in other recent projects as well. In fact, he starred in "The Love Guru" and played a subtly humorous British General in "Inglourious Basterds."ADNFCR-2673-ID-19812276-ADNFCR
