CGI and 3D films have been wowing audiences recently, but moviegoers should remember that standard 2D animation still carries some serious weight.

"The Princess and the Frog," a 2D movie that was a critical and box office hit, will finally be released on March 16. The film marks a return to form for Disney, whose beloved cartoon-classics "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin" have been seen by millions.

The G-rated flick, which takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana, follows Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose), a waitress and aspiring restaurant owner. One day she meets Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), a stuffy socialite who is turned into a frog by a voodoo magician.

After Tiana kisses the green amphibian, she morphs into a frog as well. Tiana and Naveen must then work together to break the spell.

In addition to a delightful story, "The Princess and the Frog" boasts a stellar cast. The kid-friendly adventure was scored by Randy Newman, a composer best known for his hit tune "You’ve Got a Friend in Me" from "Toy Story." And Rose is a Broadway actress who won a Tony Award for her work in "Caroline, or Change."
