"Planet 51" is fun for the whole family

Scary alien movies have been dominating the big screen lately. However, "Planet 51," which will be released on DVD March 9, is a fun, safe film for the whole family. The animated, PG-rated feature follows Lem (voiced by Justin Long), a carefree teenage alien. One day his foreign planet gets a surprising visit from Captain Charles T. Baker (Dwayne Johnson), a clumsy astronaut from earth. The citizens of Planet 51 are terrified of the human, and Captain Baker is forced to use Lem's house as a hiding place. Soon it's up to Lem to protect the earthling and save him from being exterminated. The film, which is brought to life with vibrant colors and cutesy characters, is sure to keep kids' attention. The story also uses décor and fashion from the 1950s as inspiration for the make-believe world. Long and Johnson are just some of the many actors who have lent their voices to a recent animated feature. The revered icon Ed Asner supplied the sound for old curmudgeon Carl Fredricksen in "Up," while Dakota Fanning was the magic behind the title character in "Coraline."
