Johnny Depp to star in "The Lone Ranger"

Johnny Depp fans have long been anticipating the actor's next film, Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," which is due to hit theaters on March 5. Though there's now news that the talented actor has another film in the works that moviegoers of all ages will be able to enjoy – a feature film based on "The Lone Ranger." According to CinemaBlend.com, Justin Haythe, who wrote the screenplay for "Revolutionary Road," has been signed on to pen the film, and industry insiders are hopeful that the talented writer will be able to pull the dated franchise out of the past and make it relevant to a new audience. Depp, however, will not be filling the formidable boots of the masked do-gooder. He will instead be playing the role of Tonto, the Lone Ranger's faithful side kick. Other buddy films based on old television shows, like "Starsky & Hutch" and "Miami Vice" haven't fared well at the box office, but with such talent onscreen and off, perhaps "The Lone Ranger" will buck the trend.
