Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Dastan, the "Prince of Persia"

Fans of "Prince of Persia" will be thrilled to hear that Disney is making a movie adaptation of the popular video game, slated for release next May. The game has gone on to spawn many titles and variations based on the first two installments, "Prince of Persia" (1989) and "Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow of the Flame "(1994). The film, which is based on a 2003 version of the game, will star Jake Gyllenhaal as the main character Prince Dastan. In a rags-to-riches story, Dastan begins his life as a street urchin in 6th century Persia, but becomes embroiled in the problems of the nobles when the king adopts him as his heir. Dastan eventually meets Princess Tamina, and the two embark on an adventure to rescue the Sands of Time, an artifact that controls time. The film will also star Ben Kingsley as Nizam, an evil nobleman who is also in search of the Sands of Time. Kingsley won an Academy Award for his performance in "Gandhi." The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer who has helmed other successful action-adventure flicks like "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" and the two subsequent sequels, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."
