(We do not collect these names or emails!)It may be hard to believe, but it has been 70 years since the release of the beloved Civil War Era-classic "Gone with the Wind."
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same title, written by Margaret Mitchell. It was originally published in 1937.
The film stars Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, a vivacious southern belle. Scarlett matures into a strong-willed woman as she struggles through a war, three marriages and her perpetually unrequited love for Ashley Wilkes, a confederate soldier.
Scarlett also falls in love with Rhett Butler, a dashing anti hero played with gusto by Clark Gable. The part garnered Gable his third Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He had won the award five years earlier for his role as journalist Peter Warne in "It Happened One Night."
Leigh won an Academy Award as Best Actress for her role in the film. She won once more for her portray of Blanche DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Hattie McDaniel also won an Academy Award for best Supporting Actress for her portray of Mammy, a slave in the O'Hara's household. McDaniel was the first African-American performer to win an Oscar.
The new edition of the DVD will feature a hi-definition version of the film and more than eight hours of extra features.
