Barbie movie in the works

Barbie turned 50 years old this year and it's safe to say she doesn't look as if she's aged a bit. Now, this stylish lady is about to star in her own movie, featuring live actors as opposed to animation or CGI graphics. Variety.com announced today that Universal Pictures have an agreement with Mattel giving the studio exclusive rights to make a film about Barbie. Universal Pictures Chairman Marc Schmuger commented on the deal, explaining "so many representations of Barbie frequent pop culture, but never before has she been brought to life in a motion picture." As of now, there is no filming schedule or potential release date for the motion picture. Consider picking up one of Barbie's animated adventures to tide young ladies over until the movie is finished. The Hans Christian Andersen tale, "Thumbelina," about a miniature girl and her life in a wildflower field was adapted to accommodate Barbie. In this animated film version, Barbie herself plays the teeny character. Rather watch Barbie take on a regal role? The dynamic lady presents her adventures in "Barbie and the Diamond Castle." Two princesses find a third trapped inside a magic mirror and determine it is their job to set her free from this shimmery prison.
